Freshness and Your Flower

Freshness and Your flower

The first step is to buy high quality flower. It won’t matter how you store your flower if the bud itself is dry, poor quality and old when you purchase it.

The next step to prolong its longevity is to keep it away from light, heat and oxygen. Much like perfume, hemp and cannabis will degrade if exposed to consistently high temperatures, oxygen and UV light. It will lose the potency of its cannabinoids and the terpenes will begin to dry out. Therefore, it is important to use an airtight container that blocks UV or is opaque such as a mason jar or a C-Vault. Additionally, store it in a cool, dark space and make sure the container is clean as well.

A sure fire way to make your flower stays fresh is by using a Boveda pack. Boveda packs have a patented 2-way humidity control that continually responds to ambient conditions by adding or removing moisture to affect the enclosed environment and deliver the predetermined RH (relative humidity) level printed on the pack. Each Boveda consists of a specially prepared saturated solution of pure water and natural salts. This saturated solution is contained within a patented water-vapor permeable “reverse osmosis” membrane. Boveda humidity packs provide the cleanest and most purified humidity of all other products available on the market today. All Boveda products are maintenance-free and require no activation. They come in a variety of sizes to fit any storage or packaging size.

When you check your flower, check your Boveda. Brand new Boveda is soft. When you start to feel hard spots, it’s time to replace your packs. Please don’t wait until Boveda turns into a solid wafer, that means it’s completely dry. It’s perfectly okay to use more than the recommended number of humidity control packs for the amount of flower you’re storing. Dry climates, season changes and very leaky storage containers might require you to routinely use more Boveda. If your Boveda lasts 2 months or less, it’s working extra hard to keep the environment stable. Make sure the lids are securely closed on your totes, jars and containers. If storing flower in a bag, keep it tightly sealed.

Here at JJ's Hemp, we make sure that each and every flower order contains a Boveda pack in order to ensure freshness.
